Bad News Ermine

thThe pair of white ermine stood as still as furry adornments on a Yup’ik parka, their beady, black eyes scanning a well-worn trail. Then, with light, bouncy leaps they dove into a snow tunnel. Dark brown tips of their tails flipped behind them like pesky flies, and suddenly disappeared too.

Two covetous ermine live in several dens around our yard, which is bad news to voles, hares, and field mice. As slender uninvited guests, ermine will eat a homeowner, then move into his cozy house! Ermine are never satisfied with living in just one place.

How like humans these short-tailed weasels (ermine) are. We’re never satisfied.

Trying to find fulfillment in our jobs, marriages, family, accomplishments, or abilities only whets the appetite to find bigger, better “dens.”

I have discovered that the One who created me knows best what will fulfill me. It is much more satisfying to give up all erratic searching and settle into one home with Jesus. Only then can I experience intense fulfillment right where I am.

When a man or woman finds this contented place, a comfortable yet supercharged inner drive powers their life to a fulfilling, effective completion.

I Corinthians 2:9-10
…“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” — but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
